Governor-elect
Dr. Amy Acton
Dr. Amy Acton grew up facing a difficult childhood in Youngstown. She overcame periods of abuse, hunger, and neglect, and even wound up living in a tent in the middle of winter. She put herself through college and medical school here in Ohio and did her residency in Columbus at Children’s Hospital. Dr. Acton continued her work as a doctor and public health expert at The Ohio State University and the Columbus Foundation.
As the former Director of the Ohio Department of Health under Governor DeWine, Amy tackled the opioid crisis, held prescription drug companies accountable, and led the state through the COVID-19 pandemic, saving countless lives and helping Ohio’s economy and schools open sooner than other states.
On November 3rd, Dr. Acton made history as the first ever woman elected governor of Ohio. As governor, she is committed to lowering costs, taking on the cost of corruption, fully funding our public schools and building an Ohio where all of us can get ahead.
